At 41, Leonna Dotson faced challenges that could have held her back for a lifetime. Determined to break the cycle for herself and her two sons, she found a path forward through a paid apprenticeship with MCS and their comprehensive support services. Dealing with financial instability and limited access to higher education, Dotson worked multiple minimum-wage jobs just to make ends meet. “I felt stuck. No matter how hard I worked, I couldn’t break the cycle. I wanted more for my sons, but didn’t know where to start,” she recalls.
Through MCS’s Registered Apprenticeship Program, Dotson received hands-on training, tutoring, and wraparound support, including case management and counseling. She began her journey as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Memorial Hospital/BJC, earning top evaluations and receiving the Daisy Award for outstanding patient care. The program provided her with not just a job, but a stable, meaningful career.
